60 per cent of business people do their accounts outside office hours

Sixty per cent of small business owners are so busy during the day, they’re forced to put off doing their accounts until evenings and weekends – some at three in the morning.

That’s according to online accountants Beanaccounting.co.uk.

The firm’s unique web-based accounts system records when people log in to enter transactions.

And three out of five of the site’s users do so outside the traditional nine to five working hours.

Beanaccounting.co.uk’s owner Mark Robinson said: “This proves that running your own business is a real 24 hour a day job.

“There are so many different things to juggle, that many business people find themselves doing quite important tasks at odd times, including in the early hours of the morning.”

Many of the site’s clients were asked why they logged in outside office hours.

The most common answer was that they were too busy during the day chasing sales, or doing whatever their business actually did.

Others found it easier to do the accounts at night because they had fewer distractions.

A few saved accounts transactions up until they had a quiet night at home while their family were out.

Some people used the system in the middle of the night, with logins recorded at 2am and 3am.

Mark added: “As more and more business people work round the clock, they’re going to demand 24 hour access to the people that support them, like their accountant. Over the next 10 years we’re going to see this become more and more important to people running their own business.”
